An RHS medal winning Landscape Design & Build Practice
Award winning

I am an approved registered member of the Society of Garden designers (SGD.org.uk) and an RHS medal winning designer. The Landscape Design Practice, has a detailed and collaborative approach to Landscape Design working with Clients, Architects and other Creative Industries.

Great to work with

I am indeed lucky to have this career, helping transform little pockets of the world that we call gardens!
I believe that the design and build process should be fun, educational and inspire you. If we haven’t achieved all these as well as creating you a fabulous space during the time we spend together then I’ve failed! As long as you have a realistic budget, there are a wide range of options and price points that I work to, so please don’t be afraid of contacting me and discussing what is possible.
I look forward to hearing from you.

We build as well!

I can either work with your preferred garden builder or together with local, reliable and experienced landscaper Rob Hatton and his team, your garden build project can be designed and built as one project.

We work on a wide range of projects, domestic and commercial, small and large, in urban and country settings.

What we do

We serve both Commercial and Residential Clients
Garden refresh

Keep the overall shape and structure but reshape beds and refresh all the planting with a more interesting scheme that will extend the flowering season or give the planting a different feel or add screening.  Siting and sourcing a new summerhouse or secret walled garden.

Full redesign

A total redesign for a garden that is no longer suitable for the house or it’s owners. A new build or extension always needs to relate to the garden and a designed outdoor space will help the project fulfil it’s potential.

Garden Lighting

A new lighting scheme for garden or courtyard.

The cost

Large and Commercial landscape and garden design projects are priced at a percentage of the project cost. For small projects of £40k budget or less the design cost can be an agreed fixed price.

Planting plans start at £500

Full designs from £1500 plus project management at a percentage of build cost.

The benefit

Maximising the budget.

Connecting your house to its space.

Ensure the (expensive) place outside is used.

A lifestyle choice.

Any projects, Small, Larger or Commercial are quoted. Stephen A Ryan provides landscape and garden design services in Gerrards cross, Uxbridge, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, West London, Great Missenden, Amersham, Surrey and Denham.

Commercial work

We work on humanising existing Urban spaces by adding living elements to soften the existing hard surfaces and encourage people to use the space. Complete redesign of public spaces that increase footfall and potential rental revenue yields of the surrounding buildings.

A Garden in Wimbledon

A lifestyle garden for the family of a professional couple in Wimbledon, this was a wonderful collaboration with interior designer Monika Hubbard.

Soft evergreen planting, cedar panelling and grey gravel create a restful but sophisticated family space that connects to and extends the interior into the outdoors.

Budget ca. £35k

A Garden in Beaconsfield

A family garden in Beaconsfield designed for all ages and for serious entertaining. Simple planting around a large lawn and a generous entertaining area still leaves space for the two young boys to burn off energy.

The house now appears much more settled and connected.

Budget ca. £25k

A Garden in London

A back Garden in London for a couple with two daughters.

This transformation turns a tired and empty looking garden into a chic and contemporary space with planting inspired by the famous Highline garden in New York.

Budget ca £40k

A Garden in Gerrards cross

After a house renovation the front garden was in urgent need of a refresh.

This project in Gerrards Cross is for a retired couple and turned the dumping ground for their building site into a contemporary delight using late summer perennials and evergreen structure.

Budget ca £8k

What people say about us
We wanted to re-design 3 main beds of plants/ shrubs which had become tired over the years, and we gave Stephen free rein to choose complete replacements meeting our broad brief of colours and type. The result was an excellent job, which exceeded our expectations in design, plant choice, enthusiasm, and implementation. We would be happy to recommend him to anyone needing a creative design approach to their garden.

Stephen was recommended to me by friends whose garden he had transformed in Gerrards Cross. I found him from the offset to be courteous, knowledgeable, very efficient and with some great ideas, nothing was too much trouble. The work was completed within the allotted time and the garden was left in an immaculate condition. I would highly recommend Stephen for any landscape work whether it be a large or small project.

I had wanted to create a chill out area in a rather neglected overgrown part of the garden. The plan was to have a summerhouse, patio, water feature and suitable planting. I discussed an outline plan and budget with Stephen Ryan. He understood what I wanted, was very receptive, open minded. He made some creative suggestions, which greatly enhanced my ideas. I was delighted with his initial plans which were exactly in line with what I wanted to achieve. Working with a local landscaper, Stephen’s plan has transformed that section of my garden. I am delighted with it and i have no hesitation in recommending Stephen to anyone considering changes to their garden.

Stephen, Many thanks for the plans, Peter and I think you have done a great job !

Stephen As you know we are both really delighted with the outcome of the garden design and planting.I do understand that it is not easy to re-design one area of an established garden but you took on the challenge and what a brilliant result! Very well done and I hope that you are as pleased with the end result as we are.

Farnham Common
I love my front garden- it now makes my house stand out from all the others and people look it with envy as they walk past! My garden puts a smile on my face as soon as I come home, best money I ever spent
